Spring 2017: The Proper CollectionFebruary 16, 2017
Devereux’s Spring ’17 Proper Collection just launched. We chatted with our Creative Director, Robert Brunner, to find out more about how this collection came to be.
What is the theme for this season?
Mod-Resort: The apparel this season was crafted to be seen at beautiful modern contemporary resorts – from hip boutique resorts to fancy beachfront ones. Mod-Resort focuses on fresh, easy to wear colors and blended performance fabrics that keep you cool and dry on your day to day adventure.
What was your inspiration for the Spring 2017 collection?
The concept for Spring 2017 was inspired by travel. Whenever I travel I seek to stay at unique boutique hotels and immerse myself in the cultures of the places I visit. I wanted to design a line that makes you feel like you are on vacation and away from life’s struggles. Something you can take with you to some of the world’s most amazing places, throw on with ease and yet still look completely put together and fresh. When designing this collection, I was inspired by the guy that’s on the move – always jet-setting to his favorite golf resort or beach town. That’s the guy I’d like to be. I also wanted to put a lot of focus on fabrication and feel – soft comfortable fabrics for everyday use and comfort.
How do you think the collection has evolved over the seasons?
Much like the menswear industry as a whole, this collection has evolved from a performance standpoint. We have studied our customer and evolved our fabrics to contribute to his every need. The collection has evolved from a design standpoint as well. We’ve really put a lot of focus on clothes and colors that are easy to wear. We want to make our brand loyal to the guy that is loyal to us – a one-stop shop of pieces that will cover anything and everything he does. If he loves our pieces on the golf course, we want to have him covered off the course as well. At home, at work, and on vacation too. When you find something you love, why go anywhere else?
Anything new this season that you’d like to highlight?
We have a lot of new pieces to offer this season. We have new elements for the golfer and incredible pieces for the everyday guy. Our biggest highlight is our Hybrid shorts; I’ve created an amphibious short that transitions from the swimming pool or ocean, to a round on the course. Another highlight releasing mid-spring is our soft, light-weight hoodies and t-shirts. These are quality, comfortable, easy to wear everyday pieces. Also releasing mid-spring is the piece I’m most excited about – the hybrid pant. It’s lightweight, performance ready and easy to wear but stylistically designed to look great in a more upscale setting as well. More to come on that soon!
Are there any new fabrications or colors that you are introducing this Spring?
The color story for spring is a soft palette of blues, grey and greens that are easy to pair with any item in your closet.
We have introduced new performance fabrics in our polo shirts. Our new Performance Sueded Interlock fabric is an athletic inspired interlock stretch blend. The Pima Cotton provides a soft, comfortable fit while the polyester interlock provides 4-way stretch and moisture wicking to keep you cool during activity. The new Hybrid Stretch knit is a hybrid blend of polyester and spandex, giving you maximum movement, with the added benefit of moisture wicking and quick dry materials.
Everything is made to perform well, but look sharp and put together.
If you had a crystal ball, what do you think would be some of the top sellers?
Cruiser short, Naples sweater and our Oracle polo for sure. The Cruiser short couldn’t be any cooler. I went to Bali recently and never took them off.
What excites you about this collection?
We are excited about our new performance fabrics that our team has spent a lot of time researching and developing. They look so good on, yet still give you everything you need when being active. They feel good and make you feel ready for anything.
If you had to sum up the collection in 5 words, what would they be?
Fresh, Soft, Efficient, Clean, Detailed.
